Investigate and Reform ICE After Plainfield Assault — Dismantle DHS Overreach

To: Sen. Van Hollen, Rep. Elfreth, Sen. Alsobrooks

From: A verified voter in Arnold, MD

August 1

Demand a full investigation into the ICE assault in Plainfield, New Jersey, fire the agent who punched a restrained man in the back of the head, and begin the process of dismantling DHS as it currently operates. Any officer hired under this administration who has participated in warrantless detentions or physical abuse must be removed. This is not a policy disagreement — it is a constitutional crisis. ICE agents are operating without warrants, without trials, and without accountability. The Plainfield incident only came to light because someone recorded it. That agent stopped only when he realized he was being watched. That is not law enforcement — that is impunity. The agency needs to be stripped back to border operations and rebuilt from the ground up with training that reflects the Constitution, not the priorities of political appointees. You took an oath to defend the Constitution. Right now, agents operating under your oversight are violating it daily. Do your job — hold them accountable, cut their authority, and fix the training failures that made this possible.
