I am deeply concerned about the direction of our federal government under President Trump and the officials he has empowered.
Funding for programs that support vulnerable people has been cut while large corporate tax breaks are prioritized. Career officials are removed when they disagree, weakening checks and balances. Public funds are being spent on unnecessary displays of power and projects that lack transparency or authorization.
I am especially alarmed by the actions of ICE. What began as immigration enforcement has become something far more dangerous. ICE agents have now killed U.S. citizens in public, not just immigrants behind closed doors (which was already corrupt). This represents a severe breakdown in accountability and public safety. I do not want ICE operating in Massachusetts, and I strongly support state-level action to limit or end cooperation with ICE.
If federal actions threaten the safety of residents or violate civil rights, states must be prepared to protect their people using lawful means, including oversight, investigations, and appropriate use of state authority. If promised federal funding is withheld or misused, that raises serious questions about fairness and the obligations placed on states and taxpayers.
This is not just about one person. It includes the Vice President, cabinet members, and political appointees who enable these policies. There must be accountability through investigations, the courts, and lawful removal from power where appropriate.
Additionally, I am concerned about the spread of misinformation around public health. Comments made by figures such as RFK Jr. undermine trust in science and public safety. We should continue to follow evidence-based medicine and maintain standard vaccination schedules that protect our communities, as most of the world does.
I am asking for leadership that prioritizes human life, civil rights, transparency, and the rule of law.
