Prioritize people and planet over privileged profits

To: Rep. Fedorchak, Sen. Cramer, Sen. Hoeven

From: A constituent in Horace, ND

May 13

The proposed cuts to Medicaid and rollbacks on climate change initiatives are deeply concerning and will have severe consequences for vulnerable populations and the environment. Reducing access to essential healthcare services will leave millions of low-income Americans without vital medical coverage, exacerbating existing health disparities and straining the healthcare system. Similarly, weakening efforts to combat climate change will only perpetuate the increasingly devastating effects of global warming, disproportionately impacting marginalized communities. Rather than sacrificing the well-being of citizens and the planet for tax breaks that primarily benefit the wealthy, it would be more prudent to explore raising revenue through progressive taxation on the highest income brackets and corporations. Preserving and strengthening social safety nets and environmental protections should be a priority, as they are crucial investments in the long-term prosperity and resilience of our nation. I urge you to reject these proposed cuts and instead prioritize policies that uplift vulnerable populations, safeguard public health, and promote a sustainable future for all. The needs of the people and the planet must take precedence over short-term financial gains for the privileged few.
