Trump DOJ Slashes Wells Fargo Exec Fines: Investigate

To: Sen. Marshall, Sen. Moran, Rep. Estes

From: A constituent in Wichita, KS

May 4

I am writing to demand an immediate investigation into the Trump Department of Justice’s recent decision to reduce fines against former Wells Fargo executives by more than 90%. This action follows a $1 million donation from Wells Fargo to President Trump’s inauguration fund, raising serious concerns about potential conflicts of interest and the undermining of justice. Wells Fargo’s history of misconduct is well-documented. Between 2002 and 2016, the bank opened millions of unauthorized accounts, leading to a $3 billion settlement with the DOJ in 2020. Reducing penalties for executives involved in such extensive fraud sends a dangerous message that financial misconduct can be excused for political contributions. This decision not only erodes public trust in our financial institutions but also undermines the integrity of our justice system. I urge you to take immediate action to investigate this matter thoroughly and ensure that justice is served without political influence.
