I am a Christian pastor and a Social Work intern. Today I am studying the devastating passage of PRWORA. What strikes me is Representative Gibbons’ futile advocacy for children. Maybe he couldn’t change what would happen. But he spoke on behalf of innocent children and history remembers.
As deplorable appointments are being put forward, I am asking you to persist. I am asking you, as my representative, to speak boldly and condemn the harm being done to people. Make the GOP vote explicitly in favor of killing vulnerable children and rotting their teeth if they choose to confirm RFK Jr. Make them vote explicitly for vengeance and a disregard for reality if they confirm Kash Patel. Make them explicitly vote for a man so unserious and harmful that even his mother opposes him if they confirm Pete Hegseth.
If you cannot change what is happening, make a clear record for our children that we did everything we could - everything YOU can - to stop it. Make a clear record for our children that the republicans who role over and surrender our democracy and their well being did so knowingly.
As my representatives, speak truth to power and do so at the top of your lungs
