The General Services Administration which manages federal real estate and contracts is having its budget slashed and its employees fired. Those that remain are being heavily monitored. This is obviously another power grab and attempt to privatize functions of the government to enrich themselves.
Staffers were told to expect deep cuts among the agencies 12,000 employees and the closure of many offices around the US. That is currently being implemented at rapid speed. The remaining employees are being warned of their actions being under surveillance. All regional and field offices are being consolidated into four to five hubs which is costly not cost saving.
Staff workers from DOGE have gained access to key systems with classified material or private data on federal employees, anyone who has done business with the government and on building layouts. Protocols at GSA prevents new staff including those at DOGE from accessing sensitive information or making changes without oversight. Technical teams monitor attempts to install new software or write new codes. It is obvious from cybersecurity training just how dangerous that is and how vulnerable it leaves us.
On Tuesday a list of 440 federal properties to potentially offload was listed then a revised list was issued. On Wednesday that list was gone. The list included some of our countries most recognizable buildings along with courthouses and offices. The headquarters of numerous agencies including HUD, the Justice Department, the FBI and the Department of Labor were listed too. These are agencies the administration criticizes.
Many service centers are also listed which will dramatically affect services provided to the public.
They are dramatically trying to shape how Cabinet agencies funded by Congress operate and they want to profit off the sale of buildings by privatizing and awarding themselves.
