Release Olivia Andre from Indefinite Detention

To: Sen. Hickenlooper, Rep. Neguse, Sen. Bennet

From: A constituent in Fort Collins, CO

April 19

I'm calling on you to immediately release Olivia Andre from the Dilley Immigration Processing Center. The 19-year-old asylum seeker has been separated from her family and held in indefinite detention without any clear legal justification, despite an appeals court barring her deportation while her case remains open. Olivia's mother and two younger siblings were released on March 18 and returned to Portland. Yet Olivia remains detained in Texas, and ICE has refused to explain why. Her attorneys have repeatedly requested information about the legal basis for her continued detention and received no response. This lack of transparency is unacceptable. Holding a teenager in indefinite detention when she cannot be removed from the country, without articulating a lawful justification, raises serious concerns about arbitrary detention. Every day that passes without explanation deepens the appearance that this detention has no legal basis. The family originally fled the Democratic Republic of the Congo and has been seeking asylum since entering the United States in 2022. Release Olivia Andre now and reunite her with her family in Maine.
