Demand accountability for killing of U.S. citizen by Israel

September 11

The United States government's failure to hold Israel accountable for killing American citizens sends an alarming message that such actions will be tolerated without consequence. It is unconscionable that Israel can take the life of a U.S. citizen like Aysenur Eygi and face no repercussions from our own government. The deference shown to Israel's military investigation lacks credibility and independence, especially given its long pattern of impunity. Eygi's family has rightfully called for an independent U.S. investigation into her unlawful killing. Our government has a fundamental duty to protect American lives and ensure accountability when they are unjustly taken. Allowing a foreign military to investigate itself with no oversight is an abject abdication of that responsibility. The message this silence sends is that American lives do not matter when it comes to Israel. I urge you to demand a full, impartial inquiry into Eygi's death and publicly insist on real accountability and policy changes from Israel. Deferring to an inadequate internal review enables this deadly status quo of killing Americans without consequence. Our government must make clear such transgressions against its citizens will not be tolerated. Forceful action upholding American values and human rights is urgently needed.
