I am writing to express my deep concern—and frankly, confusion—regarding your support for the impeachment of President Joe Biden on the grounds that his adult son received income from a private Ukrainian company. You have repeatedly framed this as a matter of ethics, public trust, and improper influence. Yet astonishingly, you have been silent in the face of far more blatant and direct financial entanglements involving Donald Trump Jr. and the U.S. government itself. Recent reporting shows that a start-up funded by a venture capital firm backed by Donald Trump Jr. has been awarded a $620 million contract from the Pentagon, the largest loan ever issued by the Department of Defense’s Office of Strategic Capital. The company, Vulcan Elements, is not only financially linked to Trump Jr.—it is backed by the 1789 Fund, where he sits on the board. This is not an isolated case. According to the Financial Times, four companies in the 1789 Fund portfolio have secured government contracts just this year, totaling more than $735 million. Trump Jr. has publicly stated that he is “very involved in the strategic decisions” surrounding where the fund invests its resources. Even more troubling, the Pentagon recently awarded a contract to an obscure drone company where Trump Jr. has served as an adviser—and holds a multimillion-dollar stake—since late 2024. If your concern is truly government integrity, transparency, and preventing public office from being exploited for private enrichment, I must ask: Why did you support impeaching Joe Biden based on the private income of his son, yet remain silent as Donald Trump Jr. directly profits from massive federal contracts tied to the Pentagon? Why is the standard applied to the Biden family so radically different from the one applied to the Trump family—whose members continue to leverage political power for everything from crypto windfalls to expanded global real estate ventures? Your constituents deserve a clear, principled explanation. Selective outrage erodes public trust and suggests that investigations and impeachment are being used as partisan weapons rather than tools of accountability. I urge you to publicly address this glaring double standard. I also ask that you explain what actions you will take to ensure that federal contracts are not being used as avenues for political families to enrich themselves—regardless of party. I look forward to your response.
