Safeguarding Trans Privacy and Dignity in California

To: Asm. Pellerin, Sen. Laird, Gov. Newsom

From: A constituent in Santa Cruz, CA

April 26

Californians deserve privacy and safety when it comes to their gender identity. The rise of hate crimes and discrimination targeting transgender and nonbinary individuals is deeply concerning. Having personal information exposed without consent puts this community at heightened risk of harassment, violence, and severe mental health impacts. This legislation to seal gender change records both prospectively and retroactively is a vital step in protecting the wellbeing and human rights of trans Californians. Allowing individuals to control how and when they share such intimate details about themselves is crucial. I urge you to support this bill and uphold the fundamental dignity of our state's transgender residents.
