I am writing again to urge you to oppose this Republican administration’s abandoning the right to due process during the ongoing Immigration and Customs Enforcement abductions of persons they suspect of being in the country illegally.
Due process is a constitutionally-guaranteed right, not a privilege. By denying these detainees due process, there is no way to prove their immigration status.
Once this administration claims the right to strip anyone of due process, rights cease to be rights. The rule of law this country was founded on, and that has made it great, would cease to exist.
Without warrants and the right to appear before an immigration judge, these ICE “arrests” are state-sponsored kidnappings. They are unconstitutional. They are un-American.
Now we learn more than 50 Venezuelans rendered to terror prisons in El Salvador without due process came to the U.S. legally and never violated immigration laws.
With due process denied, legal U.S. residents also have been illegally jailed. U.S. citizens have been illegally jailed. And none have any legal recourse.
Congress has the power, the authority, to force this administration to cease these illegal abductions. You swore an oath to uphold and protect the Constitution. To not check this administration’s overreach, Congress becomes subservient to the executive branch.
I ask again for you to demand this Republican administration stop ICE’s illegal detentions. Demand it give due process to any and all persons suspected of being here in violation of our immigration laws.
