Do NOT Shut Down the Government Again
To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley
From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO
December 27
I am writing as a constituent to say clearly and firmly: we cannot afford another government shutdown. The last one caused unnecessary stress, financial harm, and disruption to federal employees, the public, and the economy. It should never be used as a political bargaining tactic again.
People in our communities depend on basic government functions—Social Security services, federal workers’ paychecks, military families’ stability, food assistance, inspections, benefits processing, and countless day-to-day operations that keep the country functioning. These things are not disposable, and they should not be treated like leverage.
I expect you to support responsible, timely, bipartisan funding measures and to do everything in your power to prevent another shutdown—period. That means working across the aisle if necessary, compromising when needed, and putting the stability of the American public ahead of political games.
With another funding deadline approaching, I am watching closely. I will remember how you vote. So will everyone else who depends on the government being open, stable, and functional.
Do not let the government shut down again.
Protect the people you represent.
