WE DEMAND SWIFT ACTION NOW

To: Sen. Grayson, Gov. Newsom, Asm. Avila Farias

From: A constituent in Martinez, CA

June 14

Donald Trump is not just a political figure—he is a direct threat to American democracy, civil rights, and public safety. His promises to conduct mass ICE raids, use the military against civilians, and strip immigrants—including U.S. citizens—of rights based on origin or suspicion are not policy differences. They are authoritarian tactics. His words and actions mirror those of dangerous regimes: • He has vowed to round up millions of immigrants and detain them in camps. • He refers to political opponents as “vermin” and promises to “root them out” of government—language historically used to incite violence and genocide. • He openly threatens to use the Department of Justice and military to punish dissent and silence critics. • He repeatedly signals that he will not accept election results unless he wins. This is not normal. This is not democracy. It is a coordinated assault on the Constitution, the rule of law, and basic human rights. His agenda targets immigrants, journalists, political opponents, and entire communities—especially the most vulnerable. Anyone in a position of power must speak out and take action to stop this. Every public official, elected representative, and institution has a moral and civic duty to reject authoritarianism in all its forms. The threat is real. History has shown us where this kind of rhetoric and violence leads. To stay silent now is to be complicit in the dismantling of democracy. There is still time to act—but only if we name this danger clearly, reject it forcefully, and defend the rights and dignity of all people. Silence is not neutrality. It is surrender. Action is not optional. It is a responsibility.
