I strongly urge you to oppose the misguided "Birthright Citizenship Act" introduced by Representative Babin. This bill aims to undermine the 14th Amendment's guarantee of birthright citizenship, a core principle enshrined in our Constitution. Reinterpreting citizenship requirements and denying birthright citizenship opens the door to fascist and arbitrary rules about who belongs and who is afforded legal protection in this country. The 14th Amendment is clear - anyone born on U.S. soil is a citizen, regardless of their parents' immigration status. Attempts to "reinterpret" or eliminate this through legislation are unconstitutional and go against our nation's values. A judge has already blocked the President's executive order on this issue, recognizing it violates the 14th Amendment. Rep. Babin's bill faces the same legal hurdles. Immigration advocates warn this law would create confusion and fear in communities. As their representative, you should listen to these concerns and uphold the Constitution. The President and some in Congress claim citizenship is being "misused", but the 14th Amendment has served us well for over 150 years. It helped heal divisions after the Civil War and affirmed equal rights. We should not discard such a core principle based on unfounded allegations of abuse. Birthright citizenship is a vital part of our democracy and national identity. I urge you to reject any attempt to undermine this constitutional right through the "Birthright Citizenship Act" or other means. Protect the 14th Amendment and the inclusive values it represents. Our diversity and respect for constitutional rights are sources of strength, not weaknesses to be legislated away.
