Oppose H.R. 845!
To: Rep. Carter
From: A constituent in Leander, TX
July 23
I am a constituent and am writing to ask you to strongly oppose H.R. 845, a reckless attempt to strip gray wolves of the vital protections they currently receive under the Endangered Species Act (ESA). This dangerous legislation would remove safeguards for wolves across the country, ignoring both the science and the clear intent of the ESA.
Gray wolves are not only a symbol of America's wild heritage, they are essential to healthy ecosystems. Yet this bill disregards the best available science, dismisses the guidance of wildlife experts and legal scholars, and flies in the face of widespread public support for wolf conservation.
We have already seen the tragic consequences of removing protections. The recent brutal killing of a wolf in Wyoming and the aggressive policies of wolf hunting and trapping in Montana and Idaho underscore just how vulnerable these animals become without the safeguards of the ESA.
At a time when biodiversity is in crisis and species are disappearing at alarming rates, Congress should be reinforcing the Endangered Species Act, not working to dismantle it. We should continue to protect gray wolves and all vulnerable wildlife under the ESA.
Please take a public stand against H.R. 845 and oppose it if it comes up for a vote and defend the future of wolves and the integrity of one of our nation’s bedrock conservation laws.
Thank you for considering my perspective.
