I am writing to you today as a constituent to express my outrage over the unchecked violence of federal immigration enforcement. The killing of Alex Jeffrey Pretti in Minneapolis this morning—an ICU nurse who was doing nothing more than filming Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents—is a horrifying escalation. Following the recent death of Renee Good, it is clear that these federal agencies are operating with a level of aggression that is incompatible with American civil liberties.
I am formally requesting that you take the following actions immediately:
*Call for the immediate suspension of ICE and CBP operations: These agencies are turning our neighborhoods into "war zones" and obstructing local law enforcement. The killing of a citizen for documenting federal actions is a direct assault on the First Amendment and public safety.
*Demand the removal of Stephen Miller from the administration: As the primary architect of these militarized "crackdown" policies, Mr. Miller is responsible for the culture of force that has replaced due process. His continued presence ensures that this violence will only continue to escalate.
Furthermore, I want to make it clear that the American people are overwhelmingly opposed to the current methods of immigration enforcement. Recent polling consistently shows that a majority of voters—including a growing number of independents and moderate Republicans—disapprove of these forceful tactics and believe federal agencies have gone too far.
If the Republican party has any hope of remaining a viable electoral choice in this country, it must make ending this violence a top priority. Voters will not support a party that oversees the killing of citizens on city streets and the dismantling of community trust. Supporting these extreme operations is no longer a "hardline" stance; it is a political liability that will alienate the very voters you need to win future elections.
I expect you to stand on the side of your constituents and the rule of law by demanding an end to these federal abuses immediately. I look forward to your prompt response and specific plan of action.
