I need you to support federal action to address runaway grocery prices that are crushing working families. Grocery prices have spiked over 31% since 2020, and ground beef now costs more per pound than the federal minimum wage pays per hour.
When the minimum wage was set at $7.25 in 2009, ground beef cost $2.20 per pound. One hour of work bought three pounds of beef. Today, ground beef ranges from $6.49 to $8.96 per pound at major chains, meaning an hour of minimum wage work barely covers one pound. The federal minimum wage hasn't increased in 17 years—the longest stagnation in U.S. history.
The Iran War is disrupting trade routes, oil prices have jumped 50%, and fertilizer shortages threaten to push prices even higher. Experts see no relief coming. Working families can't afford to wait while Congress does nothing. We need immediate relief through price stabilization measures and a federal minimum wage increase that reflects the actual cost of living in 2026.
