Support AB 1121 to align reading instruction with science

To: Sen. Alvarado-Gil, Gov. Newsom, Asm. Patterson

From: A constituent in El Dorado Hills, CA

April 28

California must prioritize evidence-based literacy instruction for all students. Decades of scientific research clearly demonstrate that effective reading instruction requires explicit, systematic teaching of phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, comprehension, and writing skills. The "balanced literacy" approach has failed too many children. AB 1121 would ensure all schools use proven methods aligned with the science of reading, providing teachers with high-quality training and requiring rigorously vetted instructional materials. This bill is crucial for fostering strong literacy development and academic success for all California's students. I urge you to support and vote yes on AB 1121 to implement these vital reforms to early reading instruction statewide.
