Save Head Start and Child Welfare Services

To: Sen. Moran, Rep. Estes, Sen. Marshall

From: A constituent in Wichita, KS

April 27

I am writing to express my deep concern about President Trump’s 2026 budget, which threatens the future of millions of American children. The proposed elimination of the Head Start program would strip early education, nutrition, and healthcare services from over 750,000 low-income kids. In Pennsylvania alone, more than 35,000 children would lose vital support that helps close opportunity gaps and strengthen families (Time, April 2025). The budget also slashes funding for child welfare programs, including investigations into child abuse and enforcement of child support. These devastating cuts would cripple agencies responsible for protecting vulnerable children and leave many at risk of neglect or harm (ProPublica, April 2025). In addition, funding for autism research through both the Department of Education and the Department of Defense faces sharp reductions, threatening progress for countless families seeking support and treatment (Time, April 2025). This budget is not just misguided—it is dangerous. I urge you to reject these cruel cuts and stand up for America’s children. Governing responsibly means protecting those who cannot protect themselves.
