I'm writing to you as an American who is scared that the current administration will be on the wrong side of history.
The president has signed Executive Orders which define Russia as an enemy, stating that "for purposes of this memorandum, the term "foreign adversaries" includes the PRC, including the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and the Macau Special Administrative Region; the Republic of Cuba; the Islamic Republic of Iran; the Democratic People's Republic of Korea; the Russian Federation; and the regime of Venezuelan politician Nicolás Maduro.""
Yet, the President has thrown that out the window, by forcing Ukraine into a rare mineral deal for support, vetoing a bill that correctly states that Russia started the war, and giving Putin and Russia everything that want by going against everything America stands for.
We have turned against our European allies to support a dictator. We have extorted a country under attack for their resources rather than supporting them.
America claims to be for all of its citizens, yet on day one of the administrations they immediately got to work scapegoating DEI, a term that they use to mean any minority who earned a job, stripping gender affirming care, and otherwise targeting the most vulnerable.
America has a famous statue that welcomes the poor and needy yet, we gave the richest man on Earth power, and the first thing he did was cut food and medicine for the worlds poorest by getting rid of USAid.
History will remember that we have done this. History will remember our legislators who sat and watched and did nothing.
Americans will remember their representatives did not stand up for them. Americans will remember that minorities, the poor, and the otherwise vulnerable were thrown under the bus in name of tax cuts for billionaires.
Your constituents will remember their anxiety and their fear, and that you did nothing. It's not too late for you to act as a check against the executive branch as you should. It's not too late to stand up for your constituents, for minorities, for the vulnerable.
I look forward to hearing back on what actions you are taking to pull us back towards the right side of history. I look forward to hearing what actions you are taking to stop the executive branch from moving against our European Allies to support Russia.
