Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey has directly contradicted the federal account of events, calling ICE's characterization false. When local officials who witnessed the aftermath speak this forcefully against the federal narrative, and when Vice President JD Vance dismisses a woman's death as "a tragedy of her own making," we face a crisis of accountability that demands congressional intervention. Federal law enforcement agencies must operate within constitutional bounds and be subject to independent oversight. The pattern emerging here, with a second shooting involving federal agents occurring in Portland on the same day, suggests systemic problems that require immediate attention. Local communities have the right to independent investigation when federal agents use deadly force on their streets. I urge you to take three specific actions. First, demand that the Department of Justice allow Minnesota state investigators full access to this case. Second, call for congressional hearings to examine ICE's use of force policies and the circumstances surrounding both the Minneapolis and Portland shootings. Third, support legislation requiring independent state or local participation in investigations when federal agents use deadly force.
