Stand for American Values—Condemn and Repeal Executive Order 14173

To: Rep. Nunn, Sen. Ernst, Sen. Grassley

From: A constituent in Des Moines, IA

March 18

I am deeply concerned about President [Last Name]’s Executive Order 14173, titled "Ending Illegal Discrimination and Restoring Merit-Based Opportunity." This order eliminates key protections against segregated facilities in federal contracting, undermining the American principles of fairness, equality, and opportunity for all. For over 50 years, federal contracts have required equal treatment of employees, ensuring that segregation and discrimination have no place in government-funded workplaces. Removing this provision does not promote merit—it weakens fundamental protections against discrimination. This action is not just wrong—it is un-American. It is hypocritical to hold up merit as the most important consideration when the President himself has promoted unqualified appointees and even demanded exemptions from background checks. Even the name of this order is misleading, as it has nothing to do with merit. It erodes the progress our nation has made toward equality and fairness in the workplace. At a time when democracy and justice are being tested, we must defend the values that define our country. I urge you to publicly condemn Executive Order 14173 and call for its immediate reversal. Please issue a public statement opposing this order and provide a written response outlining your stance and the steps you will take to address this urgent issue. The American people expect leadership that upholds the principles of justice and fairness. I look forward to your response and your commitment to these fundamental values.
