Dear Congress, I’m asking for an additional 4 billion dollars over the next three years to develop eight solar power protocols that WILL power the entire United States fir NASA ; To put this in context, NASA’s current budget is about 25 to 26 billion a year. Of that, roughly 7 point 8 billion goes to the Artemis Moon to Mars program, 7 point 3 billion funds science including planetary and Earth missions, 4 point 4 billion keeps the International Space Station running until 2030 and supports the transition to commercial stations, and about 1 point 2 billion supports space technology research. The rest covers STEM, operations, and other programs. My request is separate from all of that. The 4 billion would be dedicated solely to building and testing these solar protocols at 50 million each, and that funding would cover the work for roughly three years. It’s a small addition compared to the overall budget, but it’s focused on a project that could transform the nation’s energy future. We only ask for what we need as we go.
