An Open Letter

To: Rep. Carter, Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Harker Heights, TX

April 26

I never imagined the U.S. government would deport U.S. citizens, let alone with absolutely no due process. Yet, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has deported U.S. citizen children without affording them the fundamental rights guaranteed by our Constitution. Today, April 25 2025, three U.S. citizen children who had been held incommunicado were deported, despite their citizenship status and without proper legal procedures. Such actions not only violate the due process clause of the Fifth Amendment but also erode public trust in our immigration system. These incidents are not isolated. There are multiple cases where U.S. citizens, including vulnerable individuals like children and those with cognitive impairments, have been wrongfully detained or deported by ICE. These actions suggest systemic failures within the agency that must be addressed immediately. As your constituent, I urge you to take the following actions: 1. Demand Accountability: Call for a thorough investigation into ICE’s procedures to ensure that U.S. citizens are not wrongfully detained or deported. 2. Legislative Oversight: Support legislation that mandates strict verification of citizenship status before any deportation proceedings and ensures due process rights are upheld. 3. Transparency Measures: Advocate for increased transparency within ICE, including public reporting of detention and deportation statistics, especially concerning U.S. citizens. The deportation of U.S. citizens is a grave injustice that undermines the principles upon which our nation was founded. I respectfully request a response outlining the steps you will take to address this critical issue.
