Block the DOJ's $1.8 Billion Lawfare Fund
To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

May 22
Break with President Trump on the DOJ's $1.8 billion "Anti-Weaponization Fund." McConnell called it "utterly stupid, morally wrong." Tillis called it "stupid on stilts." They're right. This fund — created through a settlement of an unrelated IRS lawsuit — could hand taxpayer money to people who were convicted of assaulting Capitol Police officers on January 6. The officers who defended the Capitol that day have already filed suit to have it declared illegal. That should tell you everything.
Todd Blanche says commissioners will weigh a claimant's conduct before paying out. But Blanche appoints all five commissioners himself. That's not a safeguard — that's a rubber stamp. There is no legal precedent for this fund, and no amount of reassurance from Trump's former personal defense attorney changes that. Join McConnell, Tillis, and Cassidy. Vote to block this fund before a single dollar reaches someone who beat a cop and got pardoned for it.
