Don't Abdicate Your Duty to Vet Trump's Nominees
To: Sen. Wyden, Sen. Merkley
From: A verified voter in Portland, OR
December 13
The Senate must not allow any recess appointments by the president that would circumvent proper vetting and oversight of nominees. Doing so would be an unacceptable abdication of the Senate's constitutional duty to provide advice and consent on executive branch appointments. Recess appointments deprive the American people of a thorough examination of a nominee's qualifications, ethics, and suitability for the position. The Senate has a responsibility to the nation to ensure qualified and ethical individuals hold important government positions through a transparent confirmation process, not enable appointments lacking scrutiny. I urge you to reject any recess appointments and insist on the Senate fulfilling its constitutional role.
