I strongly object to the decision to permit Flávio Bolsonaro to enter the United States under the extraordinary circumstances surrounding his departure from Brazil.
Regardless of anyone's political ideology, wealth, connections, or family name, the United States should not provide a safe haven to someone seeking to avoid legitimate judicial proceedings in another democratic country.
I urge Congress and the appropriate federal agencies to investigate the circumstances under which Mr. Bolsonaro received permission to enter the United States and to review whether he continues to qualify for a U.S. visa and lawful presence.
If U.S. law provides grounds for revocation of his visa or removal, those laws should be applied impartially.
No politically connected foreign figure should receive preferential treatment that would be unavailable to an ordinary person.
