It is encouraging to see Texas taking environmental stewardship seriously by requiring the cleanup of illegally dumped wind turbine blades in Sweetwater and preventing additional waste from being accepted at those sites. Holding companies accountable for illegal dumping is an important step in protecting our land and communities. I also hope Texas will look beyond cleanup and support newer, more effective recycling technologies for wind turbine blades. As renewable energy continues to grow, Texas has an opportunity to lead the nation in developing practical recycling and reuse solutions that reduce landfill waste, recover valuable materials, and create jobs while protecting our environment. At the same time, I urge immediate action to address another urgent environmental threat: abandoned and orphaned wells that are leaking toxic water and other pollutants. These sites endanger groundwater, wildlife, birds, livestock, and surrounding ecosystems across Texas. This issue requires coordinated, overdue action by every level and branch of Texas government, including stronger enforcement, accelerated well-plugging efforts, adequate funding, and accountability for responsible parties wherever possible. Texas has long been a leader in energy innovation. It should also be a leader in responsible environmental stewardship by addressing legacy pollution, investing in modern recycling solutions, and protecting our land, water, wildlife, and future generations. I respectfully ask you to support and advocate for these priorities.
