An Open Letter

To: Rep. Norman, Sen. Graham, Sen. Scott

From: A constituent in Fort Mill, SC

January 31

I’m writing to demand that Congress push to include the following stipulations in the DHS appropriations bill: 1 A ban on ICE agents entering schools, hospitals, and places of worship 2 A ban on ICE agents detaining and deporting U.S. citizens!! 3 A ban on agents wearing face masks to hide their identity 4 A ban on ICE agents conducting roving patrols 5 A ban on ICE or DHS surveilling us and collecting our data more than allowed without a judicial warrant 6 A requirement that ICE agents obtain a judicial warrant — not an administrative one — to enter a home or arrest someone 7 A requirement that ICE agents wear body cameras 8 A requirement that ICE agents coordinate with state and local law enforcement 9 A mandatory code of conduct for ICE agents 10 An end to ICE’s arrest quotas 11 No additional funding for ICE; they already have $75 billion for the next four years, they don’t need an additional $10 billion for operations in 2026 12 A restriction on DHS transferring funds within the agency — so they can’t pull from FEMA or the Coast Guard or Border Patrol and fund ICE 13 A removal of Border Patrol officers from cities — they should stay at the border 14 An abolition of ICE, because its conduct is immoral and unconstitutional, and its job is duplicative of CPB (Customs and Border Patrol) and local law Thanks for your time, and I really hope Congress is able to get these things included. My fellow constituents and I will be paying close attention — to what’s included, and to how they vote on the bill — and we’ll remember come election time. I promise.
