The Clock Is Ticking: 2026 Midterms and Your Legacy Are on the Line
To: Sen. Schmitt, Sen. Hawley
From: A verified voter in Kansas City, MO
March 13
I am writing to you as a deeply concerned constituent who is alarmed by the direction of our federal government and the harm I believe current policies are causing to our nation. I urge you to use your authority and voice as my elected representative to stand up for the American people.
First and foremost, I am opposed to military escalation and any path toward war. The American public overwhelmingly wants diplomacy, not conflict. I implore you to resist any moves that would commit our troops or resources to unnecessary military engagements abroad. Lives, American and otherwise are not political tools.
I am also gravely concerned about the actions of the Office of Management and Budget under Director Russell Vought. Reports of aggressive budget maneuvers, attempts to impound congressionally appropriated funds, and what many see as a deliberate effort to dismantle agencies and programs that serve everyday Americans are deeply troubling. Congress holds the power of the purse under the Constitution, I urge you to defend that authority and conduct rigorous oversight.
Beyond these specific issues, I am troubled by a broader pattern of conduct from this administration that many Americans perceive as lacking transparency and accountability. The public deserves honest governance. I ask you to support strong investigative oversight, demand truthful testimony, and hold all officials, regardless of party to the highest ethical standards.
I want to be clear: your constituents are watching. The decisions made in Congress today will be remembered at the ballot box. Americans across the political spectrum want leaders who show courage, uphold democratic norms, and put people before politics. I believe there is still time to do the right thing, and I urge you to do so.
