I have concerns about the recent actions taken against Department of Education employees who participated in diversity training initiatives during the previous administration. Placing these dedicated public servants on leave and suspending their email access creates an atmosphere of retaliation and intimidation. The diversity trainings were not only encouraged but an explicit goal was set to train hundreds of employees under the Diversity Change Agent program. Many of those now on leave do not even work in specific diversity roles but attended the trainings in good faith to foster an inclusive and welcoming environment. Some were appointed to related councils by the previous administration's own political appointees. Targeting these public servants who aimed to create a more equitable workplace is unacceptable. I urge you to reinstate these employees immediately and allow them to continue serving the public. Protecting diversity initiatives is crucial for attracting and retaining top talent that reflects the diversity of our nation. Eliminating such programs will only breed a culture of discrimination and hamper the agency's ability to effectively carry out its mission. Increased diversity makes organizations stronger and more resilient. I hope you will reconsider this misguided crackdown that could demoralize an entire workforce.
