I am writing as a Pennsylvania constituent to express serious concern about the recent FBI raid on the Fulton County, Georgia election office and the broader legal and constitutional issues it raises.
Election law experts have publicly questioned whether the FBI’s unprecedented seizure of 2020 ballots, voter rolls, and election records was legally justified, including whether proper authority existed for the raid and whether the court authorization aligned with long-established legal standards. These concerns are compounded by reports that some records were under seal and that local officials were not aware of the full basis for the action.
At a time when the integrity of democratic institutions is already under stress, federal action involving state-held election materials must be beyond reproach in legality, transparency, and process. If there are genuine legal grounds for such an operation, those grounds need to be made clear to Congress and the public. If not, similar actions could erode public trust, chill participation in future elections, and invite a perception that federal power is being used in ways that conflict with constitutional boundaries.
I am asking for immediate congressional oversight. Will you support hearings to examine the legal basis, court authorization, and procedural safeguards regarding the Fulton County raid? Will you back subpoenas or information requests for the underlying warrant, DOJ justifications, and communications between federal agencies and state officials? And will you advocate for statutory clarification that protects state election administration from federal overreach absent clear and compelling legal need?
Elections belong to the people, not to political interests or unfettered agency actions. Congress must ensure that federal authorities act lawfully and with respect for constitutional roles in our democratic system.
