Support Trans and Nonbinary Representation in Advisory Roles

To: Sen. Nesbitt, Gov. Whitmer, Rep. Andrews

From: A verified voter in Stevensville, MI

June 17

Stand behind the appointment of trans and nonbinary leaders to LGBTQ+ advisory boards and policy roles. When right-wing media frames basic advocacy work as extremism, that's a scare tactic — and it shouldn't dictate who gets a seat at the table. Trans and nonbinary people bring lived experience that should be shaping policy, not just being subjected to it. Advisory boards exist precisely to bring these voices into government. If anything, we need more trans people in positions of leadership and visibility, not fewer — seen and unseen, in public-facing roles and behind the scenes where decisions actually get made. Don't let manufactured outrage from conservative outlets pressure you into sidelining qualified community leaders. Representation in government structures isn't a political concession — it's how good policy gets made.
