I am writing to demand your immediate intervention in the detention of a child and his father by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, as well as your urgent action to prevent the continued detention of children, U.S. citizens, and individuals who hold lawful immigration status. The detention of a child under any circumstances should be a last resort. The detention of a child alongside a parent who is either a U.S. citizen or lawfully present in the United States is not only morally indefensible — it raises serious constitutional and legal concerns. Due process, equal protection under the law, and basic standards of human dignity are being violated when families are deprived of their liberty without clear legal justification, transparency, or access to timely review. America has long represented the rule of law, freedom, and the protection of fundamental rights. As our nation approaches its 250th year, it is deeply disturbing to see federal agencies engaging in actions that undermine these principles rather than uphold them. I am calling on you to take the following actions immediately: -Demand the immediate release of this child and his father from ICE detention -Require ICE to halt the detention of children, U.S. citizens, and individuals with lawful immigration status -Initiate formal congressional oversight, including hearings and independent review, into ICE’s detention practices and compliance with constitutional and statutory law -Support or introduce legislation that strictly limits the circumstances under which children and legally present individuals may be detained This is not a partisan issue. It is a matter of civil rights, constitutional governance, and the moral obligations of a democratic society. Your role as a member of Congress includes ensuring that federal agencies operate within the law and with respect for the people they serve. I expect a public response detailing the actions you will take to address this matter.
