Support the Marshals Act

Please support S. 1873 / H.R. 3607, the MARSHALS Act—a critical bill that would restore authority over the U.S. Marshals to the federal judiciary rather than the executive branch. With threats against federal judges rising sharply and tensions escalating between the executive and judicial branches over the enforcement of court orders, it’s essential that the judiciary have control over its own security. In recent months, the Trump administration has repeatedly defied federal court orders and targeted judges with hostile rhetoric. As a result, security risks to members of the judiciary have grown alarmingly. A recent report documented a 327% increase in threats against federal judges on social media over the past year. These threats aren’t limited to words—judges and their families have faced bomb threats, swatting incidents, and other real-world dangers. At a time when personal risks to judges are at an all-time high, the MARSHALS Act would empower the judiciary to oversee and manage its own protection, ensuring the safety of judges and upholding the rule of law. This legislation would also strengthen judicial independence by allowing federal courts to enforce their own rulings. As Senator Grassley recently reminded us, “We’ve got a system of checks and balances.” That system only works when the executive branch respects the authority of the courts. Congress must act now. Pass the MARSHALS Act to protect our judges and defend the integrity of our constitutional democracy. Thank you.
