AMERICA WAS ONCE HOPEFUL & PROGRESSIVE. NOT DARK & REGRESSIVE

What a President with true vision for America can achieve: Civil Rights Act of 1964: Outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin in public accommodations, employment, and federally funded programs. Voting Rights Act of 1965: Struck down discriminatory voting barriers (such as literacy tests), fundamentally enfranchising millions of African Americans. Civil Rights Act of 1968 (Fair Housing Act): Prohibited racial discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing. Medicare and Medicaid: Enacted via the Social Security Amendments of 1965. Programs that established health insurance for the elderly and low-income families, respectively. War on Poverty: Launched the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964, creating initiatives like the Job Corps and Head Start to combat systemic poverty. Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965: Provided the first major federal funding for public elementary and secondary schools, specifically to support low-income students. Higher Education Act of 1965: Established the first federal scholarships and low-interest, federally insured student loans. Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965: Abolished the national-origins quota system, shifting U.S. immigration policy toward family reunification and skilled labor. Environmental Protection: Signed foundational conservation and pollution control laws, including the Wilderness Act of 1964, the Water Quality Act of 1965, and the Air Quality Act of 1967. Fast forward from the tenure of LBJ to today and what a President with nothing but self-interest as a guiding philosophy can do…take all of the above away from Americans while lining his own pockets, and telling us it’s for our own good. But they did at least share an endless war with no good outcome. Compare and contrast…which vision should America aspire to? Are we even capable of great ideas anymore? Of concern for any form of the common good? Sad indeed.
