Reject using the military for Ice abductions

To: Sen. Cruz, Rep. Van Duyne, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Dallas, TX

August 4

A leaked memo outlines this Republican administration’s plans to use military troops to conduct mass deportations of civilians under the guise of immigration enforcement. This alarming overreach represents an escalation of authoritarianism that undermines America’s constitutional rights and democratic values. Military personnel must remain committed to upholding the Constitution, not carrying out extrajudicial campaigns against the populace. Our military was created to fight foreign enemies of the state. The police were created to protect the people. Historically, every time the military becomes both, the people become enemies of the state. We cannot allow political agendas to compromise the military's role of national defense and distort it into an instrument of oppression against the very people it is sworn to protect. This attempt to weaponize soldiers against civilians, regardless of immigration status, is an unacceptable violation of civil liberties and a degradation of human rights. I urge you to unequivocally reject any proposal that abuses military power for politically-motivated persecution and to safeguard the sacred principle of civilian control over the armed forces.
