Vote NO on SAVE

To: Sen. McCormick, Sen. Fetterman

From: A verified voter in Allentown, PA

February 13

I respectfully request that you vote against the current legislation designated as the SAVE Act. There is a “vanishingly small” amount of voter fraud that does not affect the outcome of our elections, almost none of it is committed by non-citizens. As a woman who changed her name at the time of her marriage some 43 years ago, my current legal name (of course!) does not match the name on my birth certificate from 1951. To rectify this issue, I could obtain a passport. Certified copies of my (out of state) birth and marriage certificates will cost more than $100, a passport photo about $20, and the passport $165. So to continue my unbroken voter record will cost nearly $300. Or I could apply and petition the court to change my name back to my birth name, which legally would cost $800 or more, plus the cost to update all of my documents. A passport will be a financial burden on me, which I will struggle to meet. Others will be unable to pay these costs. This requirement is an illegal poll tax which will restrict access to voting. Thank you for your consideration.
