I’m writing as your constituent to urge you to oppose Section 373 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) in its current form because it would undermine aviation safety and potentially recreate the dangerous conditions that contributed to the tragic mid-air collision involving PSA Flight 5342 earlier this year.
Instead of moving forward with language that could weaken safety protections, I respectfully ask that you support the bipartisan ROTOR Act, which would close the ADS-B Out loopholes that currently allow certain military and government aircraft to operate without transmitting their position near busy airports—an issue identified as a key factor in that tragedy. Air Line Pilots Association
Aviation safety should never be subject to political compromise. Our national airspace must be as safe as possible for pilots, flight crews, and the flying public. Please work with your colleagues to ensure that the NDAA includes strong, effective safety measures like the ROTOR Act and rejects provisions that would roll back progress.
Thank you for your attention to this critical issue.
