I strongly urge voting against Senate Bill 74, which removes legal protections for libraries providing materials deemed "harmful to minors." This bill poses a severe threat to free speech and access to information. Libraries serve a vital role in promoting education, intellectual curiosity, and diverse perspectives. Attempting to censor or restrict materials based on subjective standards of harm is a slippery slope that undermines our democratic values. We should trust libraries, parents, and communities to make informed decisions about appropriate materials rather than imposing heavy-handed government censorship. Protecting free expression and open access to knowledge should be prioritized over vague moral panics. Please vote no on this poorly conceived and potentially unconstitutional legislation.
