I need you to reject any proposals that would eliminate the Institute of Museum and Library Services or cut funding to IMLS, NARA, or the Library of Congress below functional levels. The Trump Administration's FY2027 budget proposes destroying IMLS entirely on page 56, which would eliminate the only federal funding source for libraries and museums nationwide.
IMLS funding supports critical services in our community. Libraries provide digital literacy education, health information resources, and programs that help formerly incarcerated individuals reintegrate into society. With nearly 2 million people incarcerated in the U.S., these reentry programs make a real difference. Libraries also bridge the digital divide through hotspot lending programs and support the growing number of homeschooling families, which increased from 3.7% to 5.2% of school-age children between 2018 and 2023.
Congress must sustain and strengthen the funding formula that guarantees public access to these essential resources. Eliminating IMLS would devastate library services across the country and cut off millions of Americans from the programs they depend on.
