I am writing as your constituent to urge you to vote NO on H.R. 7567, the Farm, Food, and National Security Act of 2026. While I support timely Farm Bill reauthorization, this legislation cements serious policy failures that will harm vulnerable Americans and undermine the family farms it claims to support. My key concerns: 1. SNAP Cuts That Lock In Harm This bill is built on top of $187 billion in SNAP cuts from last year's reconciliation law — the largest in the program's history. More than 3 million Americans have already lost food assistance. Rather than provide any relief, H.R. 7567 ratifies that damage, including the removal of work requirement exemptions for veterans, the formerly homeless, and former foster youth. 2. Children's Nutrition at Risk SNAP cuts directly reduce eligibility for free school meals through automatic certification. Fewer SNAP households means fewer children receiving free lunches and greater administrative burden on schools and families alike. 3. Farm Subsidies That Bypass Family Farms Perhaps most troubling for a bill marketed as supporting American agriculture: critics across the political spectrum estimate that roughly 60% of farm subsidies under this bill will flow to the largest 10% of crop-producing operations — averaging $225,000 per farm. Small, beginning, and family farmers deserve a bill that works for them, not one that further concentrates benefits at the top. 4. Family Farms Already in Crisis — And This Bill Ignores It Farm bankruptcies are up nearly 50% nationally and closer to 70% in parts of the Midwest. Fifteen thousand farms were lost last year alone. Current tariff policy is estimated to cost the average American household $2,500 annually. H.R. 7567 does little to address these pressures and, by some accounts, effectively ratifies them. American farmers and food-insecure families deserve better. I urge you to oppose this bill and push for legislation that genuinely serves rural communities and working families.
