I am writing to urge you to support impeachment proceedings regarding Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr. based on recent reporting that raises serious concerns about truthfulness under oath and harmful actions that have undermined public health in the United States and beyond. Recent news coverage reports that newly obtained emails undermine Secretary Kennedy’s sworn testimony about his 2019 trip to Samoa and its relationship to vaccine-related advocacy in the lead-up to a devastating measles outbreak there. If Secretary Kennedy knowingly made materially false statements under oath to Congress, that is profoundly disqualifying conduct for a Cabinet official entrusted with safeguarding the nation’s health and integrity of federal agencies. At the same time, measles is resurging across the Americas, and public health authorities are warning that cases have risen sharply—driven largely by gaps in vaccination coverage. This is not an abstract policy debate: measles is among the most contagious viral diseases, and outbreaks are preventable when public trust and vaccination systems are protected. Leadership from the federal government should be focused on evidence-based vaccination, transparent communication, and strengthening outbreak response—not amplifying doubt or undermining confidence in proven public health measures. I understand that impeachment is a serious constitutional remedy. But it exists for moments when a “civil officer” abuses authority, betrays public trust, or cannot be relied upon to execute the duties of office faithfully. Notably, an impeachment resolution regarding Secretary Kennedy has already been introduced in the House (H.Res. 944). I respectfully ask you to take these actions: Publicly support impeachment proceedings (or publicly call for an impeachment inquiry) into Secretary Kennedy’s conduct and testimony. Demand sworn testimony and document production regarding the statements at issue and any relevant communications with outside organizations or advocates. Hold oversight hearings on measles resurgence and the federal government’s vaccination and outbreak-response posture, including any actions that have weakened public confidence or public health readiness. Support immediate, evidence-based public health measures that rebuild trust in vaccination, strengthen surveillance, and protect vulnerable communities. This is about accountability and preventing further harm. The nation—and the world—cannot afford federal public health leadership that is credibly accused of misleading Congress or promoting approaches that contribute to avoidable disease spread. Please let me know your position on H.Res. 944 and what steps you will take to ensure accountability and protect public health.
