Support Gender-Affirming Care Access After Kennedy Declaration Ruling

To: Sen. Nesbitt, Rep. Andrews, Gov. Whitmer

From: A verified voter in Stevensville, MI

April 19

I'm asking you to publicly support access to gender-affirming care for transgender youth and oppose any federal attempts to restrict it following the recent court ruling against Secretary Kennedy's unlawful declaration. On April 18, U.S. District Judge Mustafa T. Kasubhai struck down Kennedy's December 2025 directive that threatened to cut federal funding from providers offering gender-affirming care to minors. The court found Kennedy exceeded his authority, violated the Administrative Procedure Act, and acted without following required rulemaking procedures. Judge Kasubhai wrote that "Secretary Kennedy's unlawful declaration harmed children" and noted that when leaders act without authority, "he acts with cruelty." Kennedy's policy had immediate consequences. Hospitals across the country abruptly halted treatments like puberty blockers and hormone therapy, fearing loss of federal funding. The court recognized that exclusion from Medicare and Medicaid functions as a "financial death sentence" for providers. Gender-affirming care is supported by the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Pediatrics as safe, effective, and evidence-based. The Trump administration plans to appeal. I need you to stand with the medical community and defend the rule of law by opposing these restrictions and protecting access to medically necessary care.
