Stop the inhumane treatment of protestors and immigrants

To: Sen. Cruz, Sen. Cornyn

From: A constituent in Frisco, TX

June 11

I write to express my deep concern over recent escalations in federal responses to migrants and protesters—actions I believe violate the rights and dignity of all individuals, regardless of immigration status. News reports reveal that President Trump has deployed thousands of National Guard troops and Marines to cities like Los Angeles, asserting power over state and local authorities in response to immigration-related protests . The use of military force—without the request of local officials—appears reminiscent of authoritarianism. Indeed, Governor Gavin Newsom has publicly denounced these orders as “dictator-like,” emphasizing they are “acts of a dictator, not a President” . Additionally, plans to use sites such as Guantanamo Bay as migrant detention centers—facilities with a long record of abuse—underscore the troubling nature of the administration’s approach . As your constituent, I urge you to: 1. Use your office to strongly oppose the deployment of federal military forces against peaceful protesters and immigrant communities. 2. Support legislation that ensures humane treatment and due process for all migrants—resident or not. 3. Challenge policies that deploy detention operations to sites known for rights violations. Our best values are clear, as echoed in Scripture: “Love the foreigner, for you were foreigners in the land of Egypt” (Deut. 10:19, NIV). And Jesus teaches us: “I was a stranger and you invited me in” (Matt. 25:35). These verses remind us that dignity and compassion must guide our policies—no matter who the individual may be. It deeply concerns me that current federal actions risk undermining democratic norms, militarizing civil spaces, and treating people not with care, but with cruelty and fear. We must not allow America to embrace authoritarian tactics under any guise. I respectfully ask you to use all available legislative, oversight, and political means to halt these actions. Let us foster justice rooted in humaneness and dignity, ensuring our government protects people—not suppresses them. Thank you for standing for the rule of law, for human rights, and for our shared values as a nation.
