Protect Online Speech: Stop KOSA

To: Sen. Butler, Sen. Padilla, Rep. DeSaulnier

From: A constituent in Martinez, CA

May 8

I am writing to you today to express my vehement opposition to the Kids Online Safety Act, or KOSA. This deceptively-named piece of legislation does not make the internet safer for children; it simply makes it easier for politically motivated bigots to censor online activism. KOSA would allow right-wing attorneys general to ban LGBTQ identities, information about climate change, or information about abortion access. KOSA will harm children and teenagers, keeping queer kids in the closet by making it impossible to learn that their identities are normal, and it crushes First Amendment rights in online spaces. Please, pay attention to the real effects of this legislation rather than the polite language it’s packaged in, and vote no on KOSA.
