I am writing to express my deep frustration and embarrassment at Donald Trump’s continued behavior as President of the United States. Regardless of party affiliation, the presidency should command a basic level of dignity, competence, and honesty. President Trump routinely fails on all three counts. It has become increasingly common to see the President visibly fall asleep during meetings and public events—on camera, in front of foreign leaders and the American people. This is not a partisan observation; it is a matter of public record. The image projected to the world is one of disengagement and decline, not leadership. The physical state of the Oval Office itself has become a metaphor for this presidency. The addition of gaudy, fake gold ornaments and excessive décor has turned one of the most historically significant rooms in the country into something resembling a casino lobby rather than a seat of serious governance. It reflects poor judgment and a lack of respect for the institution he occupies. More troubling, however, is the President’s repeated inability—or refusal—to understand basic facts. He regularly claims that his administration has reduced prescription drug prices by 600 percent or more. This is mathematically impossible. Prices cannot be reduced by more than 100 percent. These statements are not harmless exaggerations; they signal either profound ignorance or deliberate deception. Either way, they make the United States a global punchline. Similarly, President Trump’s claim that his tariff policies have generated over $18 trillion in revenue is an obvious falsehood. That figure exceeds total federal revenue over many years combined. Tariffs are taxes paid by American consumers and businesses, not a magical source of national wealth. These repeated lies demand correction, yet Republicans in Congress remain largely silent. At what point does party loyalty give way to responsibility? When does Congress decide that protecting the credibility of the United States matters more than protecting one man from criticism? I expect my elected representatives to defend truth, competence, and the integrity of our democratic institutions. I would like to know what you intend to do to hold this President accountable for his behavior, his dishonesty, and the damage he is doing to America’s standing in the world.
