Raise the Minimum Age for Running for Public Office

To: Sen. Kennedy, Sen. Cassidy, Pres. Biden, Rep. Graves

From: A constituent in Baton Rouge, LA

December 23, 2024

We, the undersigned, propose raising the minimum age for running for public office to 85. This change would bring significant benefits to our society, including: 1 Wisdom and Experience: Older candidates offer invaluable life experience and perspective on policy. 2 Emotional and Cognitive Maturity: Individuals over 85 are likely to make more balanced, thoughtful decisions. 3 Mentorship and Leadership: Older leaders can guide younger generations in governance. 4 Focus on Public Service: At 85, public service becomes a priority, not career politics. 5 Healthier Government Culture: Elderly leaders can foster unity and diplomacy over divisiveness. 6 A Reflection of Society’s Trust in Aging: This would affirm the value of older citizens in leadership roles. By raising the minimum age for officeholders, we prioritize experience, wisdom, and stability, leading to better governance for all. We urge lawmakers to support this change for the good of the nation.
