Remove federal restrictions on COVID vaccinations
To: Gov. Meyer
From: A constituent in Newark, DE
September 1, 2025
I am writing to urge you to consider issuing a public health order that would remove federal restrictions on COVID-19 vaccine access in Delaware, specifically, those that limit pharmacies from vaccinating individuals of all ages and risk profiles.
As you know, the COVID-19 pandemic continues to evolve, and while we’ve made significant progress, equitable access to vaccines remains a critical public health priority. Federal limitations have created unnecessary barriers, particularly for families with young children and individuals who may not meet current eligibility criteria but still face elevated risks due to community transmission or underlying health conditions.
New Mexico recently took a bold and compassionate step by issuing a public health order that expands vaccine access through pharmacies to all residents, regardless of age or risk profile. This move has empowered local providers, streamlined distribution, and reinforced the state’s commitment to public health equity.
Delaware has long been a leader in proactive health policy. By following New Mexico’s example, you would not only improve access but also send a powerful message that Delaware prioritizes the health and well-being of every resident. Pharmacies are trusted, accessible, and well-equipped to support this effort.
I hope you will consider this action as part of Delaware’s ongoing commitment to public health and pandemic resilience. Thank you for your leadership and for your continued dedication to the people of Delaware.
