Reinstate AmeriCorps funding to support vital community services

To: Sen. Edwards, Gov. Healey, Rep. Michlewitz

From: A verified voter in Boston, MA

April 17

AmeriCorps members provide crucial services to communities across the nation, responding to natural disasters and assisting nonprofit organizations. The decision to abruptly terminate AmeriCorps members not only disrupts these vital services but also jeopardizes the future career prospects and educational opportunities of the volunteers themselves. This cost-cutting measure may have unintended negative consequences that outweigh any perceived savings. AmeriCorps reflects American values of service, compassion and investing in our nation's youth. These hard-working volunteers deserve to complete their terms and receive the benefits they were promised. Terminating their service prematurely undermines the program's ability to effectively support communities in need and cultivate the next generation of civic-minded leaders. I urge you to reconsider this harmful policy decision and reinstate funding to allow AmeriCorps members to fulfill their commitment to national service.
